Many tragic accidents in which infants or children are killed or injured are a direct result of either an improperly installed car seat or a child improperly secured in the car seat. Motorists are reminded that child passenger safety is a top priority for Elmhurst Police personnel and that the police actively enforce safety seat laws. Although the Elmhurst Fire Department offers free car seat inspection and instruction as a community service, the ultimate responsibility for the child's safety rests with the parent or driver of the vehicle. Inspections/instructions take approximately one hour, and are performed by trained and certified Child Passenger Safety Technicians.
