Meet Our Newest Fire Buddy

Maltese_COLOR_2023The Elmhurst Fire Department and Project Fire Buddies, an organization of firefighters who offer support and give back to children fighting critical illnesses, are honored to offer assistance to an Elmhurst child in need.

Meet our new Fire Buddy, Audrey!
Audrey has been courageously battling Leigh’s Syndrome, a mitochondrial disease. For Audrey and other children like her, the severity of dysfunction causes a systemic effect. Audrey has been a beacon of strength and continually fights this battle with a smile on her face.

Audrey recently celebrated her 10th birthday, unfortunately from the hospital. Elmhurst Firefighters IAFF Local 3541 members from Elmhurst’s chapter of Project Fire Buddies were graciously allowed to visit Audrey on her birthday and drop off some gifts to celebrate.

Project Fire Buddies - Elmhurst is beyond grateful for the opportunity to support Audrey and her family throughout their journey. Welcome to the Project Fire Buddies family Audrey!
