ELMHURST FIRE DEPARTMENT RECEIVES ISO CLASS 1 RATING

The City of Elmhurst Fire Department has again been awarded a Class 1 rating from the Insurance Services Office Inc. (ISO). ISO rates fire departments on a 1-10 point scale, with Class 1 being the highest rating. The department first achieved the elite rating in 2018 and is honored to receive this rating for the second time.

This rating places Elmhurst in the top 2% in Illinois, where only 29 have earned ISO Class 1. Out of 38,195 nationwide ISO rated communities, only 498 have achieve ISO Class 1 ratings. ISO is a standardized, national rating system that evaluates and assigns a number on its scale regarding the condition of the community’s fire protection system.

“We take pride in achieving the ISO Class 1 rating as we continue our dedication to safeguarding our community,” states Elmhurst Fire Chief, Dick Dufort. “I commend the professionalism of our team, along with the collaborative efforts of the Building Department and Public Works Utility Division. It is through this seamless coordination that we elevate our standard of fire safety and protection.”

ISO ratings provide guidance to insurance underwriters related to property risks associated with fire protection services. In addition to validating the quality of the department, this rating goes directly to the property insurance premiums insurers charge residents and commercial customers. ISO’s analysis considers suppression capabilities (staffing, equipment, and station locations), fire prevention and code enforcement, training, emergency communications, building codes and the quality of the water distribution system.
